According to Distraction.gov, the official government website for distracted driving, in the year 2011 there were 3,331 people killed in crashes involving a distracted driver. Furthermore, 387,000 people were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving a distracted driver.

Distracted driving puts everyone at risk, whether it is on purpose or on accident. Any activity that could divert your attention away from the road is considered distracted driving. Some examples include:

  • Texting
  • Using a cell phone or smartphone
  • Eating and drinking
  • Talking to passengers
  • Grooming
  • Reading, including maps
  • Using a navigation system
  • Watching a video
  • Adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player
